You're just two weeks late. That's nothing crossing the Atlantic.

I never felt hurt by anyone, but I am sorry that Neil felt unappreciated. He did do a lot of work for the campaign. I hope he will be back with renewed strength.

I will try to get December Solo Mission Brief posted up this weekend so as not to pressurize the Christmas run up.

After a tumultous period for me, things have settled down and a bit of stability is now on the horizon, this should mean I can get another couple of scenarios done by the end of Nov and Dec.

To date since the solo campaign started in July 2014 the following have been played:

2014 4 Solo games were played 19 times

2015 12 solo games were played 55 times

2016 12 solo games were played 56 times (to date)

A big thank you to all the scenario writers and players who have taken part.

You still may beat me to it Neil.
On top of everything else I now have to go for an MRI scan to see if I still have a brain! No really for my nose, and I have just gone down with a cold and chest infection. I don't really have the energy to do much more than a paragraph at a time at the moment.
We will get there when we can.

I'm going to be laid up for most of 2017 with a lot of recovery inbetween ops, so if anyone would like to take the lead running or admining the 2017 solo campaign(s) please feel free.

I have no idea how you do what you do, so give me the instructions and I'll see if I am up to the task. If I am able, then I'll do it. If I can't do the whole job, then I might be able to do part of it and let someone else do part. I've often thought that this isn't a one man job.

I hope you recover quickly and with minimum pain and discomfort. I daresay your absence will have a huge impact on the Aerodrome as well as here.

Take care and best of luck with the surgeries.

First part is a double hip replacement followed by double knee replacement if hips don't fix problems.

So hest case 12 to 16 weeks. Worst case 18 months plus.

    Neil

PS. Main loss on aerodrome will be lack of shows after April that I can attend. Even Doncaster may be in the balance.

I would say run it as simply as you can I'll send you a copy of the original spreadsheets used in the 2014/5 campaigns. Just put in results.

For what it's worth I do know someone who had double hip replacement done, and she was para sailing within a year? I do hope you end up with the best case scenario.

    Jack,

    I need the basics.

How do you get into the spreadsheet?
How do you keep up with the replacements for crew?

Give me a down and dirty version of a Solo Campaign Users Guide. Most of this stuff is in your head, now put it on paper (err internet)

My son lost his knee and found that the new joint physically supported him just fine. Getting by the mental part takes a few seconds, a huge amount of courage, and extreme faith that the system works. He started moving his muscles as soon as he was allowed to, almost immediately, and stuck to the physical therapy religiously. Having someone there for him was important too.

If you start feeling down just think of the alarms you'll set off at Heathrow Airport and all of the attention you'll get.

    Master Sheet:
Left hand side is the complete list of everyone taking parts, user names, fleets etc.

On the right hand side are seperate boxes (basically same information as on left) for players in the same nation and a check as to whether they've been invited, accepted etc.

Then there are 4 sheets, French, British, American, Privateer.

Left hand column is player user name, ship name (type over player), captain, decorations, abilities if any, then the next bit is split into 2. Part 1 is the mission report, ie RTP = return to port, S = Sunk, C = Captured etc. Part 2 is for points gained for achieving game/mission victory points. For every 10 VP's an ability may be chosen.

This info is repeated down the page/sheet and across for each player and ship.

To invite players, go to the top right blue box 'SHARE' this brings down another box where you can add email addresses of players and invite them into the spreadsheet. (The master sheet is your check list).

    Any other questions just ask.

If I get time I'll add my roster when I've caught up with all the 2016 games. I'll also back track using your rules for 2017 so those pirates can carry forward their hauls into 2017 if you wish.

    Neil,

It's a new year and a new game. Let everyone start even, if it's ok. Check out the Letters of Marque 2017, I've calculated Murad's score using 2016 stats and 2017 scoring. I wanted to see if it worked.

I think that a decision needs to be made for which rules to use this year, so I flipped a coin and 2015 came up. Unless there are objections, lets use 2015 rules with the scoring change for the Letter of Marque Campaign.

If you agree let me know. If not, well let me know too, I guess.

I am having trouble with how Ability Points are scored in the 2015 rule system. Who gets credit for the points when a ship is sunk or captured when more than one captain participated in the sinking or capture? How do you determine if a ship is large enough to get 3 points for a victory or too small so is only worth 1 point. These rules seem like they will require someone (me?) to make a subjective decision about points to be awarded. I have difficulty making subjective decisions.

I read somewhere that the British awarded prizes to all captains involved in an engagement equally, so I propose the following:

At the end of the game, the burdens of each ship that has been sunk or captured should be added together and divided by number of the players captains starting the game. The players captains and their crews get the points even if their ships were sunk or captured; survivors benefits.

    Example:

Captain Sterling leads 3 ships against the wily French. The French lost 2 ships, a third rated ship with a burden of 5, and a frigate with a burden of 3.

Bligh is awarded 8 ability points. Those points are divided between the 3 captains so that each captain gets 2.67 points. Sterling, the leader, is also awarded 1 point for achieving the goal of the scenario.

I would record =8/3 for each captain and =(8/3)+1 for Capt. Sterling.

If you can access to the spreadsheet, then look at Bligh's British Squadron where this battle is recorded.

If you are ok with this scoring change, then let me know, if not then let me know that too.

There are no guidelines in the 2015 Solo Campaign. I would like to suggest this policy:

At the end of a game a player may recommend one of his captains for a medal for extraordinary deeds accomplished during the game. In order to do this he/she must write a short paragraph explaining why that captain deserves to be given a medal. If the scorekeeper is convinced by the player's comments and the support the other participants, then the captain will receive a medal and 1 Ability Point.

What do you think? Let me know if this works for you or not.

I like the idea of splitting the prize money as suggested. Are you intending to round up to the nearest point so we don't have loads of 2.67s floating about.
Also how do we manage repairs if the prize money is in the pockets of the crew? As most fleets had dockyards fitted out for repairs and paid for out of the War Chest, I suggest rather than a fine imposed on the crew, a time out for repairs like the recuperation time given for airmen in wings. Say 30% repairs can be carried out between actions, and 30% each active month thereafter. A total wreck not sunk would, therefore, miss two actions out of the six for the year. If it is essential to use a ship not fully repaired it can sail as is at the time.
For crew, recruiting could be somewhat similar, but a good few of the crew should return automatically as sailors wounded but not killed or maimed permanently. say 33% of the casualties would have to be replaced over two months. Any Merchant ships should render some crew to a ship of war who stops her on the high seas to help augment losses.

I am not sure how that worked out in practice. I know a general service medal was issued to all participants for the Nile and Trafalgar, but not until some years after the event, by Queen Victoria. Captains seem to have had medals struck for major actions, or a sword voted to them by subscription from Lloyd's of London or grateful Heads of State, or a Knighthood from the King for an outstanding single ship action or suchlike. Admirals seem to have got the top honours of Earldoms, Baronetcies etc.
I'm not sure about other countries, but certainly the British Admiralty did not expend much effort in this direction.

I like the idea of using ships burdens for points and divided amongst the captains with a bonus +1 to the overall commander. (round up or down)

Repairs 50% automatic. Then 25% per game missed or can sail with that damage if required. (round up or down)

Crew 50% casualties return automatic (covers less injured and new recruits), Then 25% per game missed. (round up or down)

For privateers then they have to use their treasure to repair recruit? ie 25% repaired automatic then 1 TP/box repaired/recruited.

The 2015 rules had no rule for repairs. I suggest that if we are going to continue an economic segment to the Nation v Nation Campaign that we use the one suggested for the Letter of Marque Campaign. The commodore of the squadron could allocate funds to repair and recruit for each ship as he/she sees fit.

I am looking for a system that is simple to maintain and easy to understand.
