It is a little known fact that William Penn, the Quaker, had two elderly maiden aunts who opened a bakery in Mousehole, in Cornwall. They were known locally for the quality of their pastries and, especially, their very favourable prices. So much so that a quarter of a century later, Gilbert and Sullivan wrote a light opera about 'The Pie Rates of Penn's Aunts.'
