    Default Google Maps Treasure view

This could be an ancillary boon to the game launch is Ares can capitalize on it. Head over to google maps and click 'treasure' in the top right corner (where you usually switch from terrain to map view). It makes a pretty cool looking scene and is, of course, reminiscent of the game flavor of SoG.

Check out Street View for a sepia spyglass bit of fun.

They offered something very similar to that as a preview around Talk Like a Pirate Day last year. I hope this sticks around as an option as it's sometimes fun to use a flavored map. Especially if you're hosting an event and want to provide a link to the location.

Is this a permanent feature or something only for a few days?

    Thanks for posting.

There is a video floating around somewhere that makes it seem like they are tying it into some sort of puzzle or game. I don't know if they will keep it up after that or not. It might be worth a few screencaps of places that you might use for a story or just like to see in general.

Good idea ... just in case it disappears when you most need it, as these things are wont to do.

Looks like it is already gone. Such a waste of the effort to do it for only a day.

This was possibly an elaborate April Fools day joke:

Yeah, I knew the contest was Apr Fools as the video of how to play was ridiculous (but really funny), but I thought (hoped) that they would keep the overlay since the spent time on making it and I am sure the resources to support using it wouldn't impact their budget and might get them some visitation from RPG nerds and the like that need maps.
