    Book Title:
    The Galleys at Lepanto
    Author:
    Jack Beeching
    ISBN:
    ISBN-10: 0684179180; ISBN-13: 978-0684179186
    Category:
    History
    Format:
    Hardback
    Summary:
The author covers the political situation in Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire leading up to this famous naval battle in 1571 when the Christian Coalition made up of Spain, the Vatican, Genoa, Venice, Malta and others decided to stop the Turk and Barbary Pirate advance through the Mediterranean. The author of "Don Quixote", Miguel De Cervantes, fought in this battle (I work with one of his direct decendants).

A good read for anyone interested in the galley warfare of the late Renaissance and arguably one of the most important battles in European history.

Not being familiar with this battle - or knowledgeable at all about this period - is there is a reason you mention this? I can imagine a reason, bit I would like to hear your thoughts, if you don't mind.
