    Here's a classic...with a Belgian twist :

What's more, the man didn't speak a word of english: the text was written fonetically for him... But he was a great Belgian Folk-hero back in the sixties...

Not a shanty per se, but you can't beat "Hearts of Oak" for a rousing pre-battle sing-song or a wardroom dinner!

Rob, that too is one of my all-time favorites. That's a great cd too, with lots of other classics.

Not as upbeat as the English, but here's a couple of Russian.

All are great. Had me stomping my feet but I have to say that Alex yours was awsome. I did Civ War reenacting years ago and we would sing that song after a few brews and have a great time doin it. Now I have to search for CD's.

Those are fun. My only exposure to shanties was listening to the guys who sang on schooner I sailed on one afternoon in Key West. I had left the barky before I remembered to buy his CD...:(

After checking out the videos on You Tube I got into my bagpipe music. When I listen to the pipes I can see why they marched in formation across No Mans Land in WWI to attack the Germans.

Over the years I must have watched that movie more than five times. My favorite drinking song. Could listen to Mario Lanza all day.
