Default A nice pic of Ships of the Line

    Brest, 1850-1860.
    Quite astounding, IMHO.

    Interesting picture!
A bit like the Anchorage Andrea. The end of one era and the beginning of another?

    Rob.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

That's a great picture, as Rob said "the end of an era" but I'm always amazed how they manoeuvred the big sailing ships in ports, harbours and docks before the age of powered propulsion.
    Cheers

You're in luck, John. I'm planning on posting a scenario of maneuvering up a river using my current/set rules. Stay tuned...

I think the 1st rate in the photo is sporting a smokestack? It's horrifying to ponder Trafalgar with steam and exploding shell cannons.

I may have to equip an Ocean with a smokestack for the heck of it.

I found this on Wikipedia. The Ocean class Louis XIV in Brest. Perhaps the same ship?

Certainly got that smoke stack you mentioned earlier chaps, or have they just got a massive oven?
You know how the French love their food.
