The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

I just paid a visit to Portsmouth on September 30. An easy train ride from London for a day out ending with a pint and fish&chips at the "Ship Anson" pub in the harbour. Still 10 years to go on the HMS Victory restoration! Mary Rose Museum was fabulous as was the seeing Victory and the associated museum complete with a lifelike wax figure of the man himself.
Given the limited time remaining to the Anchorage I will see if I can post photos on our section on the new Aerodrome.
Been a while since I went to Pompey to see the ships, it's about an hour or so away from us now so maybe I'll get there again soon.
When I went there as a youngster (about 55 years ago) they were working on the stern then, a workman talking to my dad pulled out a handful of rotting timber and handed it to me. I still have the chunk somewhere now. It must have been a thing they did then, as my wife also got a chunk at a similar age.
