    Default Doncaster 2024

With much tugging at forelock and shuffling of feet, your 'umble servant begs leave to ask a question.
What plans are there for the sailing at Doncaster.
Calypso, capricious mistress of the seas is curious, (and doesn't really do forums).

As yet Chris has not come forward with any suggestions as far as I can recall, and I have been tied up with Taranto since January.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Give it go John. i will help him out with games in the afternoon but can't bring much except my sea mat, which will be there for Taranto, as the car will be full of kit for that game and prizes plus bring and buy stuff.

I am certainly looking forward to seeing dramatic photos of Taranto. It would be great if SoG made an appearance as well.

It's just fun seeing ships maneuvering on a table. I leave mine set up between games, just to gaze at the models and terrain. It's like a changing diorama.

Apologies for my tardiness in letting all know about this years Doncaster game.
I thought I had done so months ago, obviously not the case.

Anyway the intention is to put on a version of the first battle of Algeciras.

The game will have 6 RN ships against a small french sqn of three SOL and a frigate. I intend to have the shoal which grounded HMS Hannibal and caused her subsequent capture and the French will be supported by three Spanish forts around Algeciras harbour.
Yes pics will be taken and if time and players permit we may also have an alternate reality with roles reversed and Gibralter forts supporting a small RN sqn.
I hope any participants will enjoy the games and I can only promise in future Ill pay more attention to informing

As a preview for Doncaster Algeciras.

The British fleet will consist of

HMS Caesar (1793) 80 gun third rate (HMS Foudroyant (1798)

    HMS Pompee (1793) Temeraire class

HMS Spencer (1800) 74 gun third rate

    HMS Venerable (1784) Culloden-class

    HMS Hannibal (1786) Culloden-class

    HMS Audacious (1785) Arrogant-class

The French fleet will consist of

    Formidable (1795) Tonnant class

    Desaix (1800)Temeraire class

    Indomptable (1790) Tonnant class

    Muiron (1789) 44 gun frigate

The port of Alegciras will not actually be featured but three Spanish forts guarding the port will be available to assist the French.
There will also be an area of shoals which if a ship enters and for every turn they are in the area a card will be drawn, if a picture card is drawn the ship will run aground. A Jack drawn draw another card and that is the number of turns before released. Queen or King…. Courtmartial for losing your ship.

Ship survives the battle struck or not 5 pts

Run around -5 points ( due to being an awful sailor )
Your own ship strikes / sinks -10 points ( due to being courtmartialed )
