I am enjoying the works of Philip K. Allan.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

I am not up on any living authors, so I am taking note.

I never tire of Patrick O'Brian, but new material would be good. I think I'll see about tracking down on of Mr Stockwin's books.

You might want to check this one too. I have just started a book on my kindle yesterday by J D Davies called Sailor of Liberty. It is a book from the French point of view. The hero of the piece has served in the fledgling American navy, the Russian navy and is now (up to where I have reached anyway) trying to get a command in the French Republican navy. I do not think I have ever read anything like this before. And by the way the hero has served in my avatar ship, the Continental Navy frigate Alliance!

I have read the first two "Philippe Kermorvant" thrillers by J.D. Davies and they are enthralling. I have not yet read his third novel in the series.
