Origins 2024 Harbor Raid

Origins 2024 SOG - Harbor Raid - Thursday 8am

1st game (of 3 SOG) I ran at Origins was a Royal Navy raid on a French ship building facility. Each side scores for sunk enemy ships, the RN scores ½ a vessel for each ship that gives a full broadside into the French works area. The harbor fort had a firepower of 2, defense/burden of 10.

Litko broadfire fire and misses markers.

When a SOL is sunk it will be replaced by a frigate. I think respawning a SOL would be too strong a reinforcement.

As the Royal Navy enters the outer harbor, Captain Pete commanding the HMS Tonnant, shows his disrespect to the French harbor battery and is peppered with long range fire.


The French notice the commotion and sail to intercept the British.


The HMS Tonnant veers off not wanting to take unnecessary damage.


The HMS Goliath now is welcomed to France by the fortress.


The entire French squadron take on the HMS Tonnant. Captain Pete looks around for the rest of his squadron as he fires back at the Genereux.




It’s the Neptunes turn to get fired on by multiple enemy ships. Chrisgestures to Pete and Miike, “Is that all ya got”?


General fire breaks out, Le Berwick taking on the HMS Tonnant with the Genereux helping out.
Neptune holds off the HMS Goliath with the HMS Zealous closing in.


A short breather while everyone reloads and maneuvers for better positions.


The battle has been short but violent and the Neptune and HMS Goliath slide beneath the waves.
(I need to make/get some sinking ships!)


Mikes magazine explodes!


HMS Tonnant succumbs to Le Berwicks full broadside.


Berwick and Genereux concentrate on Zealous as French and RN frigates move closer to the fray.


Zealous is set upon by the three French ships.


The weight of all their shot is too much. The HMS Zealous is done for.


The British frigate, HMS Sybille,(4) makes a run for the works but has to deal with the Genereux to get there.
The HMS Trepsicore slips in behind the battered Berwick.




HMS Trepsicore (Pete) takes a broadside from Genereux.


A little revenge for HMS Trepsicore is taken out with a full broadside on Hermione (Chris)


Genereux finally succumbs to a rear broadside from HMS Sybille.


Mike makes sure Max’s ship does not stay afloat.


4 British ships were sunk. The French lost 2 sunk and 3 hits to the works.
The French won 4 to 3.5

The score gives us a much better finish than I thought.

It was a good game (Note to self: next time don't poke a stick at forts )
Wish I could have played in one or two of the others but competing games had already snagged me.

The moral is keep clear of forts as the rewards of striking them is never worth the risk.
I envy you your Litco Broadside markers Pete. The British Litco dealers do not stock them and they won't ship from the States. If you could get a dozen or so for me I would happily refund you the cost.
