    Default A Side Project

A few years back I had an extra sloop floating around and decided to make something. I had all the brigs and schooners that I wanted, so I chose to make a brigantine.

In my original attempt, I gave her a fore and aft gaff mainsail with no squares on the mast. To fill the gap between the fore and the main, I stuck in a small gaff sail on the back of the forecourse mast.

Further research indicated that nobody made brigantines that way, and it bugged me. I decided to correct my mistake a few days ago. Here's the finished result:

And a very nice converted conversion too Dobbs.
Must try one of those for my US Squadron before we get stuck into the Med again in the Spring.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Here's a link to what she looked like before this latest conversion. The original version is in the lower left corner.

Incidentally, I just tallied them and I have 14 sloops and only 3 are unmodified Swan class ship-sloops!
