Default Greetings From The Rocket City

Hi, I'm Kirk and I reside in Huntsville, AL. I've been a Wings of War...er...Glory player for years so thought I'd try Sails of Glory. My "fighting sail" gaming prior to this has been limited to the GMT Flying Colors games which I really enjoy. My other naval gaming has centered on the Civil War era with games such as Ironclads by Yaquinto, Iron & Oak by GMT, and Fighting Steam. I was attracted to Sails of Glory for two reasons; first I really enjoy the visual element of Ares games. The miniatures and other game components are top notch. Second, I'm not into excruciating detail (which is why I don't play Ironclads anymore) but I do steer more toward realism vs. simplicity.

    Hi again Kirk.
I can now welcome you officially to the Anchorage.
From what you say I think this format of the game will be right up your street.
In several chats that I have had with Andrea the Games Designer, it is clear that he does not mind anyone modifying his rules system to suit their own perception of the historical reality as they see it.
As long as you and your playing partners agree to the changes and you enjoy the game it really does not matter at all.
Any questions you may have will find an answer here from one or another of your shipmates.
May you always sail with a fair wind and a willing foe.

    Rob.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.
