Being a lazy helmsman. (or trying to see past people aboard towards the island I was rounding...)

Being the most lazy helmsman ever, not even holding on to the wheel. (we were doing perhaps 4 knots running...)

Actually having a lot of fun at the helm.
We were close hauled and originally only had foresail, fore topsail and topgallantsail, but as I was steering we piled on with the mainsail (spanker for those who don't know brig terminology) main stay sail, fore stay sail and jib. I felt how the balance shifted in her and how I had to shift the rudder to keep up.

I also played with trying to go as high into the wind as possible, looking for a shiver in the fore topsail to tell me to fall off to fill it again. I managed to hold 59 degrees for a long time.

In the middle picture I’m squaring the yards. I have the top gallant. That’s why my rope is thinner.

What a magnificent set of photos Jonas. Memories to last you a lifetime.

Just have to click on the last three pictures to get them up.

I don’t know what happened to them. Now I can’t see them at all.

    I see the pictures, Rob.

    It was a wonderful time!

I really loved keeping her close hauled while more sails were set and see how that effected the balance.
