    Default Commands between ships

    Hi All,
    Quick question.
Generally we play one player per ship with 2-4 players each side.
Currently we just chat tactics amongst the team but we thought it might be interesting to add a little fog of war.
Any suggestions on how we can simulate captains communicating with each other within the game.
    Many thanks.

    Good morning Mark.
Here are a couple of links to earlier threads on the subject of signals.
They may give you a few ideas.
After a deal of trial and error, I personally keep my flag instructions down to a few battle instructions indicated by just the ship number for which it is intended, and a one or two flag signal. Don't indicate to the players that you have changed a signal. If the player it is intended for does not send an affirmative after your next set of moves fire a gun to attract his attention. If that fails, the squadron sails on and carry out the move irrespective. it is then up to individual captains to decide what if any directional changes they need to make to avoid a meeting of ships. It can be amusing to watch, especially if you are the enemy. It may be useful to do a few trials some time previous to the actual games day if it is going to be a serious encounter.
Hope that this at least gives you a starting point for your research.
    Rob.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

    H Rob,

    Many thanks for this.

I think the trial will be useful, I am all for adding in interesting ideas but not at the cost of enjoyment lol.

    Regards.

    Hi Rob,

After a bit of searching, I think the answer is a small booklet 'Hoist Sails Aloft'.

Cost $1 to download and has everything I need.

I don't know if it is worth adding this in an appropriate place.

Many thanks again for your help.

    Kindest regards.

It would be of use if you pass on the details here and I can add it to the correct thread.
