Default Rare Armada Maps Saved for the Nation.

A set of rare maps, which chart the defeat of the Spanish Armada have been saved for the nation thanks to a fund raising campaign by The National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth. They were going to be sold abroad. The museum is now seeking more funds to allow it to put the maps on display when it reopens after the lockdowns have ended and there are also hopes that the maps will be able to tour the nation.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Dave.
Very interesting that the money to save the maps could be raised in that short space of time.
That will be well worth a visit to see when they finally go on display.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Always good to see that public access to historical treasures like this remains. I don't know the source of the foreign buyer, but if it was private these items would likely be gone from public view indefinitely.
