    Default Parkinson's Law Redux

British Naval Historian Cyril Northcote Parkinson wrote what became known as Parkinson's Law: "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion." I mistakenly thought I would get SO much done on my hobbies while at home during the pandemic....ah well....Oh Cyril you were so right!

Parkinson was wrong, work expands to EXCEED the time available and NEVER contracts. Anyone who's had to be a caregiver to a disabled relative knows this... :(

DB -- Regrettably I can relate to what you say. Stay strong.

Exactly so DB. Until two years ago, Mrs B and I were carers fo an elderly Aunt with Alzeimers disease.

Many years ago I had both of my parents go down with their final illnesses within weeks of each other (different ailments). This was just as I was starting my own family, so I was trying to help them out of their lives with some modicum of dignity while caring for my own babies...just thinking about those years now still exhausts me....

I hear you. I alway thought once I retired and stopped traveling, I would be able to spend more time in the shipyard doing what I love. Hasn't worked out that way. I believe I spend less time on the ships now than I did before when I was working.

That is very odd Vol Mrs B and I have found exactly the same phenomenon. I thought at first it was just because friends who knew you were retired came round more in the daytime, but Covid lockdown has made me revise my theory. My latest idea is based on Einstein's theory about the speed of travel. The faster your speed the slower time seems to pass. Conversely as we all know the older we get the slower we move, therefore time speeds up. That is borne out by older people saying that they can't fit everything into the time they have and how fast the days seem to go by.
