    Most interesting Bill.
In our school history lessons all we got on Dampier was that he circumnavigated the globe.
This is the first account of his works which I have encountered.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Thank you for sharing that article about William Dampier, Bill. I previously knew next to nothing about him.
