Default The 1816 Bombardment of Algiers

"A narrative of the expedition to Algiers in the year 1816, under the command of the Right Hon. Admiral Lord Viscount Exmouth" by Abraham V. Salamé

The attack on Algiers to free European slaves and to attempt to "convince" the Dey of Algiers to end the practice was one of Adm. Sir Edward Pellew's most famous naval actions, for which he was created Viscount Exmouth.

Great stuff Jason. Just what I need to give me background ideas for my Algerine Pirates and Corsairs games.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.
