Can't wait to see them in action.

    Very nice!

Could the waves be adjusted to accomodate the boats? I'm thinking using a card board cut out or something and forming the waves around that. It would make the boats "sit more in the water" and perhaps also make a bow wave posssible.

Sorry I M with flu these days and busy at work

Rob I will let you see this in action soon , no time to mount the test scenario 😀

Vagabond thank you , I will . Gunboats were very used by some nations as they were “ cheap “ . When Spanish independence War ( i think Iberian war in Uk ) even Napoleon wanted to copy Spanish gunboats

Texas , thank you for the idea . I have no sea skills , I am thinking about the bow wages

    Thank you all

Slick answer to the problem. I am fed up with keep getting my cotton wadding smoke entangled with the ships spars and corners of the sails.

Very nice markers Ferrante, did you make them with clump foliage or something else. As Rob says wadding gets tangled easily, this would be a good way to show cannon fire as well.

Good thinking John. The smoke markers have never really done it for me, but are very useful to indicate which ships are reloading. some flames on the other side could solve my problem too.

Has anybody come across these paints before.
They were on offer at Hobbycraft and I just picked three of them up to see if they were any good.
I thought they might be useful for ships decking etc.

I have used Revel paints on some of my Wings but did use Revel fawn on the maindeck of a couple of repaints.
Found them ok but can dry up, but easily restored with some water.

I am starting to ride some ships of the Hagen miniatures brand 1/700 scale.
It is a large xebec, a small xebec and a sloop.
The mast are made using steel and brass rods and the sails using shets of brass.

Yes, that is true. If you start with many projects at once, you end up defeated economically and psychologically. It is better to centre in one.

I've been messing around with making a wet palette for my paints.
This has the advantage of keeping paint wet for a longer period (doesn't dry up easily unlike a normal palette), and I've found that I don't have to thin my paints due to a small amount of water being slowly absorbed by the baking paper.
After looking around and see what people recommended I decided to do a test myself.
I went out and bought some cellulose sponge cloths from Wilko, Tesco own-brand Baking paper, and a tupperware/generic plastic tub - all in all about £3.

I'm glad to report that it works perfectly, and I'm starting to get back into painting my 40K models.

I know the feeling Julián. I am betwixt and between with projects for WW2 and WW1 Wings, Tripods, Sails and my WotR army. Inevitably one or two of these have to go on the back burner. Then there is the need to make a Desert backcloth for my games table.

Really easily, get a small/medium sized Tupperware (or a plastic container of some kind) doesn't have to be really deep, get a cellulose sponge and cut it slightly smaller than the bottom of the Tupperware. Then wet the sponge so it's completely wet (but the bottom of the container isn't a swimming pool!), cut off a piece of baking paper which is roughly the same size as the sponge and make sure it's flat, you'll know it's working if the paper looks damp/see through. Then apply paint in small blobs and the amount of paint you need will be controlled by the brush.

Very interesting. Someone sent me the Hagen miniatures link to go with the Warlord Black Seas ships at 1/700 scale. I wanted to convert one of the Black Seas brigs into a schooner, but I see the Hagen has one and also other types of fore and aft rigs. I thought Hagen was 3d printed with soft metal masts. I see you are making your own masts. They seem to be reasonably priced as well.

And this is the final result. If everything goes well then I will soon have 14 buildings to be able to texture and make their respective molds. Of course, they are for 1/700 scale, on 1/1000 scale they would look excessively large.

This is lovely, wrong scale though but a superb job of painting, especially the tiles on the roof.

This building is a sample that the designer sent me as the first proof before printing the whole lot. As you say, the scales are not correct, specifically, the tiles are excessively large. He is already working to make the tiles smaller, although they will not be real scale because otherwise they could not be painted, tiles will be big enoug to be painted confortably but trying to keep an armonious aparence.
But this firs building has allowed me to train my sculpting skills, that way I now know my limitations and I can offer a better product.

Sorry Julian, I did not mean the building was wrong but that Sails of Glory is 1/1000 scale and your building is for Black Seas 1/700 scale. I only have SoG ships, that was why I made the comment about wrong scale.

To be honest I was looking at the way you have painted the tiles so they are different shades of ochre and thought that looked superb, I never noticed the size of them, although now you mention it I see what you mean.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the buildings if they are as good as this one they will all be lovely.
    Cheers

Ah ok, now understand, I have been an incorrect interpretation of the message

Months ago I did a batch of buildings for 1/1200 or 1/1000 scale but I had to sculpt the tiles with putty and now for the same buildings for scale 1/700 I dont want to repeat that exaustive work.

Julian I don't believe you actually have any limitations!

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Nice idea Rob , I am thinking about do some reload markers . Thank you both

    I used this tutorial https://6mm.wargaming.info/page505.shtml
But I used superglue as it is ready soon than pvc glue
Sorry for this late response, one trick I learned is to use fall foliage clusters rather than green. Any chipping off of foam shows as yellow or orange rather than green.

Arr! My flame markers are plastic Airborne, I just overpaint a grey smoke wash on them.
The semi transparent orange and red plastic sheet makes very good fire markers too. When photographed with flash it really adds depth to the flames.
