    Default Black Powder-Era Miniatures Games

Does anyone play land based miniatures games from the black-powder era? I've been considering Black Powder by Warlord Games and Sharp Practice by Two Fat Lardies. I think likely take Black Powder miniatures (which I like the look of) and use some of them for Sharp Practice, which is more of a skirmish game, since I'm not sure I want to be playing with hundreds or more miniatures.

My BP era armies are from Front Rank.
I have both French and Indian wars and AWI.
Also going back a generation or two ECW Pike and shot armies from Front Rank. Now no longer available unfortunately.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

I've been thinking about doing 1750-1815 and the late 15th century. It's a lot of money though, but I'm really enjoying painting.

To answer your question - yes. I have Napoleonics in 3 different scales! My group used to play BP frequently it is fairly generic but fast playing and fun. Currently we are using Sharp Practice for small unit actions (AWI, ACW Napoleonic's). I am also part of a group running TFL games at HMGS conventions called Lard America. Mostly the various WWII games but also Sharp Practice. I have also been running games of Kiss Me Hardy using my SoG ships.

I think you have the right idea for 28mm figures - skirmish or small unit actions which limit the figure count and keep costs down. I just finished painting a force for Blood and Plunder (buccaneer skirmishes) and you can play a game with 20-30 figures. For large corps and army sized games I have 15mm and 6mm figures (6mm Waterloo using Blucher rules). Although my local group is doing Napoleonic brigade sized games in 28mm using General d' Army rules.
