    Default Heads & Hounds ??

Can somebody explain what are the heads and hounds, when talking masts and rigging. I've found mention that the hounds are where the stays attach to a mast, but that's not really helping me understand or visualise them.

And before I get the predictable responses re heads - no not that type

I would think Heads is a compression of Head stays in this connotation Pete, but I'm sure Dobbs or Texas will once again be able to enlighten us further.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.
