    Default Ahoy from Gloucestershire!

I’m a total novice at most forms of war gaming and SoG is my first foray into naval war games. So there is masses for me to learn but I’m sure there will be the most excellent advice on this site. I do have something to bring to the party - I have my own boat moored in Chichester Harbour and spend part of the summer sailing her around the Solent. So “permission to come on board” and looking forward to chatting once I’ve got myself up to speed with all the tips and advice

Welcome to the Anchorage Al from all your shipmates berthed here.

Don't worry about a lack of information because this place is brimming with a set of experts all anxious to help bring you up to speed. We also have threads on many aspects of maritime information from sea shanties to the colour of paint used on the Victory, and that's outside the game info.
I suggest you sling your hammock, get settled in, then do a tour of the ship and pop into the wardroom for a few noggins whilst chewing the fat with your new messmates.
May you always sail with a fair wind and a willing foe.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Thanks Rob, really looking forward to reading how members have enhanced the game - particularly the cards and pens replacing the chits. I’ve been a visitor for a while and have been really impressed with the chip shop customisations and your coastal fortifications in particular! I do hope to contribute as much as I can but I may go quiet for a bit while I read what’s already here!!

Thank you for your kind riposte to my message Al. As you have obviously already noted some of the goodies in the shop window, take as long as you like to browse the merchandise. There is no compunction to be a regular poster. Take what you will from the site that is why we exist. When you feel like chipping in feel free to do so.

You will find that Ares has been generous with the sailing angles of 3rd rates, which doesn't help with the self esteem of our less than agile fore and aft rigged boats. If you want to explore more historic pointing angles of the time period, I think I've posted modified ship cards on my personal page (patience is handy, especially if playing a 1st rate).

Thanks Chris and David. I will certainly look out for any events in the West Country / Midlands area. Actually Norfolk wouldn’t be too bad either as she who must be obeyed has family and property in Dereham.

    Another thought Al.
It is worth giving Dave Manley a PM to make your number, as he is our main man for Gloucestershire.
