    Default Necessary house rules?

Back when I first posted here Rob suggested a fantastic house rule, where you do not manage action selection until you only have 4 crew left. Realistically no ship would have to sacrifice working the sails to load a gun and vice versa, so it makes sense to limit that to grave situations. I've used to in every game now, and the game is much the better for it.

Does anyone have any other house rules that greatly improve the experience?

I think that you may have missed the whole section of the Forum devoted to House Rules, Joseph. It is right at the bottom of the list of sub-forums.

I like the cut of your jib Joe.
Nautical terms rule here and I run a taught ship Mister.
    Bligh.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

"Is the poop deck really what I think it is?"

I better know my nautical terms as a sailor meself. Now give those "ropes" to the landlubbers and grab some line like real men do!

Only when very high seas are running Joe.
