Thread: ...for Napoleon

    Default ...for Napoleon

    I'm developing a 1812 sceanrio.

An US/French convoi brings supplies to France.

So how to name the scenario?

    GRAIN for Napoleon?

    (Historical) questions I have:

Did the US export grain to France, or should I use something different and more historical like cotton?

Is grain the right word, or should it be corn, or something else?

I think your best bet might be a shipment of American lumber for French masts. In 1812, aside from moving things on rivers, the US didn't have the ability to move goods at competitive prices, aside from items that were in short supply elsewhere.

Whale oil might also be a good one....

In the battle known as 'The Glorious First of June' in 1794 the British fleet under Lord Howe were trying to stop a grain convoy to France from the U.S.A., which was protected by the French Atlantic Fleet. So, grain could be the cargo in your scenario.

Design the scenario please, the accounts of the engagements could introduce a nice campaign for us.

The design is still on the paper.

Bought a USS Richard Bonhomme for the scenarios and can inform about the point values soon.

Looks like an interesting scenario is developing here Sven.
Time to dust off my three American ships mayhap?

    Hmmm...

I don't know if the USS Thorn can be helpful, but to add this littel one won't change much.

Rough idea is a US/French convoi that tries to bring grain to France. Some extra supports for the Grande Armee.

    US/French Convoy:

USS Constitution 1812 with 133 points
    USS Bonhomme Richard 93 points
    Bertin 95 points
    Dryade 87 points

    Royal Navy intercept squardron:

    HMS Agamemnon 126 points
    HMS Unite 76 points
    HMS Hamdryad 85 points
    HMS Amelia 88 points

Plan is to develop two scenarios.

One will be a battle in the fog. Both sides make a setup, each ship plans 3 to 4 maneuvers secretly and then the movements are executed. Battle starts immediately after the movement.

The other sceanario is a "simple" get through scenario - the Bertin and USS Bonhomme Richard have to reach a save harbour fighting their way through the RN.

Like the fog idea. That is rather reminiscent of my Squadron action from a couple of years ago where each ship had a half ruler visibility and any enemy ship which came within its vision could be fired upon. Ships followed their leaders stern lantern but if they broke the half ruler distance were on their own, and may then be fired on by any ship that saw them if not recognized on a card draw.
Would also work for a night battle, but may need adjusting a bit.
