Thread: Price/use for/of a trading ship

    Default Price/use for/of a trading ship

Bought this one for 23,99 € (free shipping) at ebay:

SGN 116 Sails of Glory Ship Pack: Bertin 1761/ Berryer 1759

Finally I have a single East Indian Ex merchant ship now.

    Two questions:

    Price ok?

Is this ship a good match for the burden 4 frigates?

(because I plan a mission with a grain transport, intercepted by RN frigates)

I would think it could give a good account of itself Sven.
In the couple of games I have played with it it has punched above its weight.
Dave Manley or DB could probably say more about its qualities.

Price sounds not too fearfully steep.

Good question--Dave's probably stronger on game terms than I am, in game terms the navalized EIM's are basically treated as slow and heavy frigates, albeit not as well armed as a Portland. Basically while some of these ships became 64-gun SOL's, they were very weak-hulled and small-gunned "baby 64's" at best. They should have a good punch against anything 5th Rate or below, maybe draw against a Fourth... but you don't want them in The Line against a purpose-built 64 or anything bigger.

    Thanks.

I have a scenario in mind when a French ships transports grain to France guarded by the USS Constitution.

HMS Agamemnon and a few heavy frigates (HMS Hamdryad?) will try to intercept the convoi.

Goal is to bring some of the new ships in the table in a intersting/balanced scenario.

Sounds as if this could start a war with America Sven.

Hamadryad is a Light--a 32, though rated two guns higher in the original Spanish design. (And if us Americans got a hold of it, we'd probably torture it into a 36 or small-bore 38... LOL)

Checked the ships HMS Hamdryad/HMS Mahonesa: burden 4

Are there more "heavier" frigates? (for me means heavy = high burden value)

So I think HMS Agamemnon vs. USS Constitution & HMS Hamdryad vs. Bertin is a good match.

Will take those four as the basic setup for the scenario. To add more players I'll add French and Britisch (burden 4) frigates.
