It did work out well for both sides, in the end.

The sloop Clearwater sailed repeatedly past my place on the 4th of July and docked across the river from me for the fireworks last evening -- here are a couple of photos of her under full sail -- the fireworks barge anchors just opposite my place for the celebration of our country's birthday (I've attached a couple of photos of that as well). My Mother's family is illustrative of the problems that the American War for Independence brought. The three Yeomans brothers (my Mom's maiden name) came to the Hudson River Valley before the Revolution with a "significant grant of land" from King George. The family branches took different sides during the fighting -- one branch actively siding with the Crown and losing all their land as a result (they had to go to Canada after the Revolution for safety reasons -- as a child I remember them driving down once a year to visit before that line died out), another branch served in the militia to protect the area against the raids of Royal and Loyalist troops, as well as the documented raids by the Royal Navy. Another branch simply farmed their land and tried to remain neutral. Three brothers, three different paths of action.

I agree with Jonas, Bill. you got some excellent photos of the event. The sloop just added an extra touch of interest for us.
