Default Sea Battle Trophy on GothCon

I spent some of my Easter at a gaming convention in Gothenburg, Sweden playing a sea battle. It was filmed and this is the result.

Very nice, Jonas! Was it an historical battle or something else? I'm assuming you were the person in 'uniform'?

What a great way to spend Easter Jonas.
    Thanks for the video clip.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

I'm in the captains uniform. There's another one in the admirals uniform. That's right, there were two of us...

The battle was a points battle between British and Russian squadrons. The background was basically what could have happened if the Russians hadn't been locked in their ports by ice during the Battle of Copenhagen 1801, but with fictional forces.

I'll have to watch it again as I only spotted one person in uniform. I was more focused on the ships; and thanks for the battle background. Who won?

Well... I played British, for obvious reasons, and... Well, we still could have won when we ended the fight. It would have been hard, but not impossible.

I commanded two ships, one of which was the Leander. She got hit by a mortar round that scattered very far from intended, and caught fire. You can see her burn about mid film and then suddenly in big bang there was just a few masts... I had hoped that she would entangle the Russian flagship as it passed and was bumped into, but no such luck. My other ship, HMS Colossus sank one 74 and forced two 50 gun two deckers to strike. She was battling it out with a Russian three decker and taking heavy damage when we ended.

Thank you for posting the video, Jonas. It looks like it was an epic battle. I trust that everyone had a good time.

    Interesting battle.

You need patience for such a huge scenario.

It's an extremely detailed system and the battle we played took 13 hours, and it wasn't really over. Firing is handled by computers after giving firing orders involving distance and which guns to fire. It could probably have been handled in Sails of Glory in less than half that time, but then we wouldn't have known how many midshipmen and carpenters got hit in each ship...
