Default Sails Ship/Contents List, Online Edition

WORK IN PROGRESS, NO COMMENTS PLEASE! I'll open one or more Discussion Threads once the list is up. :)

As I work on updating the Content List for Wave 4, a comment in another thread leads me to consider the idea that an on-line version might be easier to keep updated, at the cost of the Member Exclusive Perk status I had meant for this resource to be.

SGN104 British "Slade Common 74," related and contemporary Common 74-gun, Large 74-gun and 64-gun ships of the line - Kickstarter, Starter, Wave 1A, Wave 1B

Special notes for this sculpt: This sculpt is specifically based on HMS Bellona, the "baseline" version of a family tree that stretched over fifty years across a broad range of sizes from 64-gun (St. Albans and Worcester) up to even 100-plus-gun three-deckers (HMS Victory and her 120-gun progeny), all based on Pierre Morineau's 1747 Large 74 Invincible. Official stats so far are from the Bellona, Arrogant, Edgar and Elizabeth variations on the design, all Common 74s.

SGN105 French 1782 Hebe, related and similar contemporary 38- to 44-gun medium frigates - Wave 2

Special notes for this sculpt: Sane's 1782 Hebe is basically the root design for most frigates her size through the entire Napoleonic era. Sane continued to iterate and refine the design much like Slade with his Common 74's, and other French naval architects produced their own variations on the theme--along with Hebe being cloned as the British Leda class.

    SGN106 Commerce de Marseilles/Ocean 118- to 120-gun three-deckers - Wave 2
Special notes for this sculpt: Naming is a bit of an oddity; one would have expected them to keep the name of CdM, the prototype, but I guess that's what being taken on your maiden voyage will do to ya. With a little fudging, this class can also pass for the slightly smaller Commerce de Paris class of two, a 110-gun shorter version of the design.

    SGN107 British Swan 14- to 18-gun ship-sloops - Wave 2
Special notes for this sculpt: While initially placed in service and officially rated as 14-gun sloops, Sir John Williams designed them as 16's and when the time came that the Royal Navy needed its smaller ships to have more firepower these hulls were ready to meet the challenge--as proven by Thorn in Massachusetts privateer service (the version in-game), which was up-armed to 20 guns.

    SGN108 British 100- to 120-gun three-deckers - Wave 2
Special notes for this sculpt: This sculpt is based on the 1803 rebuilding of HMS Victory, as she appeared at Trafalgar and is seen in her drydock today. To be technically correct, the miniatures of Ville de Paris and Hibernia need to be cut and spliced with inserts of respectively 10 and 20 scale feet. Most of these ships would be better represented by doing a model-swap with SGN201, as few (not even sure ANY) of these ships had the enclosed galleries of 1803 Victory as depicted on this sculpt.
