    Default Strange chits.

Not having used Chain or Grape more than twice before, yesterday I came across these chits for the first time.

Are they explosions or just a nothing? I ignored and drew another chit, so the French may have been extra lucky!

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Pic, Rob? I think the blanks are "write-in replacements" for any that go missing.

That is good to know DB, because I could not see why the chain or grape should be able to cause explosions when ball could not.

Just the usual C and D chit letters Dave.
Funny that they don't do spares like this for A, B, or E though.

I suppose whether or not there are blanks depends on the number of chits in the letter set and the number of possible chits on the card sheet.

I have those nine from three sets of chits. I suspect that there are three in a set unless I missed any.

I just took mine out and put them in the spares box. Which after reading this post seams to have been the right thing to do!

Last weekend I was lucky enough and honoured to play in the Battle of the Nile Scenario at the Doncaster meet which also included the game designer so The question was asked about these chits.
According to Andrea these are simply spare counters.

I use mine as the equivalent to BOOM cards in wings

The logic being that a shot causes a direct hit on / in the magazine

in one set i have only found five in total....

but i guess you could use them for spares or anything else really.

    Regards E.P.

Brilliant Simon. I'll incorporate that into my game.

Problem is you don't get any in the A or B set of chits, so you only get a boom with chain or grape which seems the wrong thing at least as far as grape is concerned.
