    Without being at all political:-

Let the words of the last letter written by Thomas Jefferson speak for all.

“may it be to the world what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which Monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self government. the form which we have substituted restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion.
“all eyes are opened, or opening to the rights of man. the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth that the mass of mankind has not been born, with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately by the grace of god. these are grounds of hope for others. for ourselves let the annual return of this day, for ever refresh our recollections of these rights and an undiminished devotion to them.”

    Thomas Jefferson.

    God save America.

Not forgetting the French chaps...oh we're at war with them. Damnation...but there again aren't we at war with the Colonies?

    Don't know Neil.
Is this year 1775 or 1812. It all gets so confusing.
Next thing you know they will be on our side!

If it's 1812 I'm keeping my head down for they will never let me back into the Colonies again! I'll be Whitewashed and Trumped.

If it's 1775 then I'm doubly damned in the colonies like hitting a 4 iron into a Bunker. But am I making mountains out of mole Hills?

As an American, I believe those early squabbles between our countries played a key role in forging our alliance today--indeed, most of the Founders viewed rebellion as the "court of last resort," and retained English traditions of governance, philosophy and jurisprudence as the foundation to build our own on, from the Magna Carta and Common Law to John Locke.

I would not call our little "inter-family squabbles" amicable, but there is a quote from MacArthur that I believe sheds some light on the Special Relationship:
"Upon the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that upon other fields and other days shall bear the fruit of Victory."
