Default Ships in contact after collision

I can understand collisions but what happens the move after, when one or both ships cannot clear each other?.

They stay where they are, continue cannon & musket fire, etc. till one is down.

There are some otional rules like entanglement & boarding, too. Those can slow or accelerate the situation.

As Sven says John, the answer to your question is answered on p 35 of the rules under Entanglement.

The Key part is really the statement:-

If playing with the basic rules do not plan any maneuver card until the ships are disentangled.

If playing with standard or advanced rules, discard the planned maneuver card for each ship:
The ship will not move in this turn. Players can still plan a maneuver card to be executed next turn,in case the ship becomes disentangled in the meantime.

By default this suggests that if you do not entangle then on the next turn you carry out the planned maneuver for each ship as normal.

(My own in house rule for this is that after collisions ships need to regain steerage way, and thus move off at one sail setting slower than when they collided. If entangled they start from struck sails.)

Hope this helps disentangle the question John.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Are we talking two friendly ships or engaged ships here?

Anyway my take is as follows

    1. Ships collide, friendly ships take damage equal to ships burden in chits. Enemy ships check who moves first, either highest burden or random. Move first ship full card length then second ship moves as per its card until it hits the first ship base.

    2. Carry out firing.

    Next turn

    1. Plan manouvres as normal.
    2. Check for entanglement, if entangled the ships do not move and planned move for this turn discarded in movement phase, card 2 moves into card 1 slot as usual for next turn

    3. plan for boarding, if both choose the swords then ships are grappled ships do not move and planned card is discarded and move the next planned move into slot 1. If neither choose and not entangled move ships as per planned card. If only one chooses boarding its randon if yes or not.

Remember collisions only occur if AFTER the planned move the bases overlap, you dont collide if the bases pass through each other during movement only if overlap at end of move.

If ships can move next turn but still overlap follow same procedure, check for entanglement and boarding.
Hopefully I not confused you even more here
