Default Permission to come aboard, Mister!

    Greetings all,

I had a love for the sea and the age of sail for as long as I can remember, but being from middle of Canada I have done little to indulgent that passion.

I've owned WS&IM and a couple other games for a couple decades, but I never managed to get my friends into it, and could never justify investing in miniatures. I watched sadly as the Sails of Glory kick starter passed me and my graduate student budget by...

I've own a home-built 3D printer (Prusa Mendel) for several years, and I was recently looking for a new project to tackle with it when I stumbled on Master and Commander, began re-reading it and started modelling some printable ships. I'm sharing my work on Thingiverse.

I'm also looking for some rules to try and get said ships onto the table. I think that I've narrowed it down to Osprey's Fighting Sail, Signal Close Action (fast play) or Bloody Broadsides, but there are so many available electronically now! I may also just bite the bullet and grab the AoS starter...

I'm here to share my work, get feedback, learn more about modelling and gaming, and hang out with some salty lads and lasses!

    Welcome David,
In ages past I also owned and played WS&IM so I can see where you are coming from. I also own a copy of the Osprey Fighting Sail, but not tried it out yet.
You can download the rules for Sails of Glory from the Ares site if you want to check out and compare the rules to others.
Unfortunately you will need to indulge in the starter set if you like the game to get hold of the counters, chits and mats.
But start with the rules, I prefer Sails due to the ease of play and the ability to add and subtract rules to taste as it were.
There are also other members of the forum who have also rule sets published plus a number of members who are interested in research.
So any questions ask away, someone will have an opinion for you.
    See you in the Wardroom

Having already spoken to you on the other thread David, I must now make up for lost time and welcome you formally on behalf of your shipmates to the anchorage.
Now you are made fast, come aboard and sample a drop of virtual Canary in my State Cabin.
May you always sail with a fair wind.
    Rob.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

    Welcome aboard!

I would be tempted to give Fighting Sail a miss. It has a number of unusual "features".
