Default Frosted glass naval war gaming table

I saw this on Facebook and thought it was such a great idea that it needed sharing on here!

It's ripple glass from a bathroom door over blue felt.

That does look incredible. It also looks like there's space below the table for placement of other gaming accessories? Nice!

    It looks fantastic!

Perhaps ten years back when Fasa was still around, I promoted Crimson Skies bye playing demo games on a sheet of glass. It was real nice until it broke in the trunk of my car. It was wrapped in a blanket so it was easy to get all the pieces out but it made me cautious about using glass for convention play. Happily it was on the way home.

I don't know what they are playing on the pictures above but it gives me a very inspiring feeling for pirates. That clear water and treasures on the islands...

I saw that too. Reminded me a bit of the X Craft vs Tirpitz game the NWS ran at Colours many years ago.

Top set of rules those chaps are using there

Im thinking of making something like this. Maybe raise it on some painted blocks to support its weight.

I am sure that you can get sheets of crinkled perspex like that.
It would be lighter and less prone to shock when being transported.
Here is an example of some.

    Perfect for submarines.

You can play them under the glass surface.

Are they using one of your rule sets, David? Jonas mentioned he didn't know what they were playing and I'm in the same boat (as it were).

That is a very effective playing surface, Hugh. I like the way the lights reflect off the 'water'. However, I seem to remember that large sheets of frosted glass are very expensive.

They were playing the 1980s edition of Form Line of Battle, from which my editions were developed.

I could probably make a version of that in our era. Submersed ship at least. When my ship is sunk I just place it on the bottom below the glass.

Try a salvage store, we have a Habitat for Humanity reusable items and surplus building bits, I found a sliding shower door with smooth glass and an aluminum frame for $5. I use it to shrink tissue on for my indoor flying models. Now I need to go back and buy the pebbled one they tried to sell me : )

    Also have some 1/700" scale type vii u-boats somewhere . . . any one have some u-boat rules . . . ?

Clever design... I would've gone Plexi depending on cost and availability for its better break resistance.

Having the glass surface above the hard table allows all kinds of neat tricks like shoals, underwater rocks, sea monsters, USS Turtle trying to attach a limpet mine to your powder magazine...
