Book suggestions

As someone new to these waters , (in your opinion) which book is the best/definitive guide to Napoleonic naval warfare ?

Very pricey to get the set (like $70 US/volume), but the "bibles" Ares builds the game around are Seaforth's "British/French/Russian/Dutch/etc. Warships in the Age of Sail" series. So far all you really need to keep up are BWAS 1714-1792, BWAS 1793-1817 and the latest, FWAS 1786-1861.

Not much discussion about battle tactics, but the best technicals you'll get on these ships short of getting the draughts from Greenwich and trying to build one yourself.

To be honest, I don't really know, I'm very much more a "technician" than a "tactician." :(

The best book that I have found to date is "Naval Warfare in the Age of Sail" 1650-1815 by Brian Tunstall.

I can concur with both my esteemed collegues here, Tunstal ok and the Seaforth books brilliant for technical and ship details.
A good read but maybe dated now and inaccurate, Otto von Pivka Navies of the Napoleonic Era
