    Default July Nation v Nation Mission brief Take and Destroy

    July mission

    The local Admiralty representative has you called into his office.
    A merchant Captain has reported seeing what he termed as "A bloody big ship" with at least two other sails acting as escort, within two days sail of port, heading to their own harbour.
    The Admiralty has ordered you to take your Squadron, or as many as you can spare, intercept the enemy and take and destroy as much of their fleet as possible.

    The problem is, you must leave at least one of your squadron in port to act as local guard.
    Also there is an epidemic rampant within the squadron meaning that most ships crews are understrength.

    1. Pick one of your six ships to remain in harbour.

    2. Roll 1xd6 for each remaining ships, this is the number of crew box's that are unavailable due to the illness.

    3. From the five ships you may exchange un-ill crew box's from one ship to fill up another ship to get a full or as high a crew as possible.

    4. The stipulation for the remaining ships is that you cannot completely fill up a crew with ill crew, a ship must retain three crew box's uninjured.

    Eg 3 ships with 10 box's roll 5, 3 &4 . ship 1 can only swap 2 box's to as to retain 3 unfilled box's to ship 2 meaning that ship2 now has only 1 box filled at the start of the mission.

    5. You can take ships with crew box's already filled.

    6. Once your squadron has been organised you can sail to intercept.

    You set sail two days ago and this morning the lookouts reported sails to the NE

    Enemy fleet consists of the following

    Roll 1 d6

    1 =. 1 x first rate ( untrained crew ), 3 x frigates
    2 = 4 X frigates ( the friendly captain was obviously frightened and got it wrong)
    3 = 3 x Frigates and 1 x third rate
    4 = 2 x third rates and 2 frigates ( the friendly captain was obviously frightened and got it wrong)
    5 = 4 x third rates ( the friendly captain was obviously frightened and got it wrong)
    6 = 1x first rate ( untrained gunners ) 2x third rates and 1 x frigate

    The playing area is two mats positioned side by side small edge at the top, North.
    Your squadron appears in the south west corner deployed in two lines
    The enemy squadron is sailing south and starts in the middle of the north edge ( mat join)

    Wind is from SW to NE

    ( my pic didnt turn out, if any confusion Ill try and take another soon as I can)

    The enemy fleet must try and exit off the map any edge once the have sailed to the mid point of the playing area, they can disperse

    A great scenario Chris.
    My problem is I only have two undermanned liners due to the pox and just threw for four enemy 74s.

    In that case Rob, take two crew from the left behind ship.... Shhhhhh dont tell anyone :)

    To all, in my play tests it was geared that you would have 4 ships with three being full or nearly full. If you have less than three ships in your sqn then take an extra two crew to distribute.... The press gangs before sailing. Hope this works out.

    Rob.
    That, Rob, is what the RAF would call a target rich environment.

    How about this one, in the words of Virgil, it does not bother the wolf how many the sheep may be.

    Thank you for the scenario, Chris!
    The pox rules sound interesting (I only hope Rob's men won't infect my crews while on shore leave...)

    I rolled a 3. 3 frigates. and a third

    My fleet

    HMS Britannia - 1st rate - 3 crew boxes filled (185pts - 36 = 149pts)
    HMS Impeteuex (slow)- 3rd rate - 4 crew boxes filled (148 - 40 = 108pts)
    HMS Terpsichore - Frigate - 4 crew boxes filled (68 - 16 = 52pts)
    HMS Meleagre - Frigate - 2 crew boxes filled (69 - 8 = 61pts)

    370pts

    French fleet
    Commerce de Bordeaux - 3rd rate - 143 pts
    Courageuse 1778 - frigate - 74 pts
    La Concorde - frigate - 72 pts
    Embuscade - frigate - 64 pts

    353 pts

    Ouch thats a lot of sick crewmen! The points look reasonably close. This should be a nice tight game!

    are the boxes filled from left or right?
