Thread: HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. My first meridian ship 1/700

  1. #1

Default HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. My first meridian ship 1/700

Hello, I present my first job in scale 1/700. The experience has been very nice. The model used is from Meridian brand. Sails have been made with green stuff and then I added structural ropes and halyards. The crew is of Eduard brand.

The ship represents the HMS Victory at the instant that breaks the Franco-Spanish line. The wind was not very strong so the sails are not swollen.

I hope you like the boat.

    Best regards to all,
    Julián

Julián that is so realistic I can smell the brine, and almost see Nelson and Hardy on the quaterdeck.

She is vary nice I love the model. I also love the rigging. Do you get the masts and rat-line with the model? Just one thing. At "Trafalgar" Nelson ordered all iron hoops/bands around the lower masts to be painted yellow to help I.D. British ships in the smoke of battle. On the 19th Oct Nelson saw that "Polyphemus" and "Belleisle" still had black hoops/bands. He ordered that they re-paint there hoops/bands at once! This was done on the 19/20 Oct. So all British ships had the yellow hoops/bands by the time of the battle on the 21st.

Each Meridian kit ship has hull and mast, life boats, anchors. Apart, you have to buy ratlines and brass sails. I used for this ship handmade sails but meridian sails are good, like Langton brass sails.

I would call it briefly: ABPOA (A Beautiful Piece Of Art)

    Julian,
Glad I can help you. Just wish to help. Thanks for the info about the "Meridian" model. As you know I have gone to smaller scale ships. But the idea of one or two 1/700 scale ships does interest me. Did you find the rigging hard to do? Where did you get the rigging information? I think it is more than double the (String) of the 1-1200 scale ships. She is a lovely ship Julian. A bit of me hopes she is going to stay with you and not to be sold.

This is part of my personal collection, this boat is not for sale. Gradually the collection will be expanded.
Regarding the rigging, is the same as that used to 1/1200 excepting the bowsprit, the bowsprit is more elaborate. Each kit has specific instructions for mounting the rigging.

Hi all, add some photos I made of HMS Victory (1/700) and two boats of scale (1/1200). I used the smaller boats as background, to give senación of remoteness.

    I hope you like it.
