    It doesn't seem that long ago that the Perry class was launched. I see now that some are being retired.

    The USN has been ditching Fig 7s for some years now. They seem to do rather well on the resale market. I think the first one went (to Poland) in 1995.

    US Navy using wooden ships to avoid detection by modern systems designed for metal ships....and silent running too with sails! Very clever, in fact a cunning plan :cool:

    We did some studies in the 1990s looking at ASW platforms for the GIUK Gap that used wingsails whilst on station, and a patrol ship as well. It looked promising, but unsurprisingly diesels and gas turbines won the day. They were nice concepts though.
