I wonder if it's significant that it's the first first rate with a royal set. Did they use the masts from the 74s, not wanting to use the same as the other first rates with the mast problem? Does that mean that smaller ratlines work?

I don't know anything about Spanish 1st rates.

So if you say the the Ocean class was the biggest player on the waves I believe you.

So what kind of Spanish 1st rate do we have here?

Like said before, it's not the Santissima Trinidad.

    This one is much shorter.

Sven, it''s Los Meregildos or for example Santa Ana.

Michael, most likely yes. I'd guess both Leopard and Leander will be among them as being the two most famous of them.

The Santissima Trinidad was built from one of these, so she wasn't much longer either. Both were significantly shorter than HMS Victory.

Although the Trinidad had more guns and a higher tonnage than most 1st rates of that time, her overall length was just about 61m, so shorter than HMS Victory (69m) and even the Frigate USS Constitution (62m).
In modern depictions she often looks much bigger (examples: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps40bada89.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sVt4Psg.gif), especially when compared to older ones: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...a_Trinidad.jpg

If Ares do not produce a Santissima Trinidad model, is there someone who could produce a 1/1000 scale Shapeways model?

All very interesting comments gentlemen, and whilst I am glad to simply get ships enough to provide a reasonable Spanish presence at last, the opportunities which the new range presents for repaints etc excites me even more.

    Rob was busy!

I didn't ask Andrea about wave 3 , but I guess like last year he wasn't able to give us release dates or something like that.

Andrea has posted on BoardGameGeek that he has nothing to do with the production side of Sails of Glory. While he might have been able to hint at what's coming up in the future I'll bet he's as clueless as us concerning the release date? At least that's what I'm guessing.

Not really Hugh. More a general workhorse as far as I can ascertain from reading. It's sailing qualities were not that of a Frigate, but its extra firepower was useful on convoy duties where speed was not of the essence.

No, just a reply to something rom Page 1 that wasn't re-quoted, on two-deckers vs. frigates.

Two-decker's basically a general-purpose workhorse, "jack of all trades master of none." More firepower and durability than a frigate, less than a two-decker SOL; more maneuverable than an SOL but not as handy as a frigate. Good for convoy escort, fixed-position blockades, inshore pursuit and long-range raiding; not good in the Line of Battle or chasing frigates and sloops on open-ocean.

What I can't understand is why it just came up in my new posts on my inbox, and is so many days late. I answered when it took me to the post, not checking to see if it was the latest one. This is not the first time mail has hung fire for days.

I think we were 20 - 24 players at friday.

It's the rear room of Ladineks shop, but it's perfect for our pure WoG & SoG convention.

I'll share more of the Inside Baseball when Ares formally announces the SKU's and names, but this block is SGN109 through SGN112.
Ok I must be really completely dense, you are saying 4 new sculpts yes? Each sculpt has 3 different ships, 2 different or 6 different?...the 3x2 has me confused which happens often

So there would be 3 of each ship with a back printed card for the two variants. 12 ships, 24 variants as before...got it. It's been over 6 months since I played, so many other demands on time

Promising but expensive. We really need to buy every variant of the Spanish to build up that fleet and one at least of each of the other sculpts. That makes 18 in all for me.

Six will equal the French First Rates available, and be one fewer than the British, if you include Victory. Now a special release of the Santisima would bring the French up to parity with the Brits.

While the Spanish will be excellent to have I think the 64 gun and 50 gun vessels will be very useful. Especially the 64 which will add further variety to the 3rd Raters.

When they got the painting proofs on their desks in April, my mind calculated October/November to be able buy something. Christmas present for self?

Probably when they come back from their summer vacations in August they will post something, til then silence.

Yeah, I expect you're correct. However, if they're planning on attending Gen Con in August and we haven't had any 'news' you can be sure I'm going to do my best to get some concrete information out of Roberto.

It is not so much the need Keith. They all know that.
It's the not being able to get, because what was promised for Octember does not appear until March or April.
They seem to want to give presents on the 25th December for some strange reason, not wait until late Spring. They seem to think that takes the edge off Christmas.
I can't understand the reasoning. i would be quite happy to wait and get the one real thing I want, rather than get a lot of well meaning stuff I really don't need.
