Default Your Chance to Direct Development Research...

Gents (and Ladies), I have something where I'm offering this community a chance to drive the bus in directing my research actiities for the Stats Committee and Ares.

As some of you who've seen me in action might recall, I usually like to keep two or three projects stacked up in parallel so that when I hit burn-out on one I can immediately shift to another and still be cranking out productive data-crunching, and can resume work on the original as soon as I reset on it or burn-out on the "second track."

So, I have two tracks under which to proceed...

PROJECT 1: Identify the major actions from the Seven Years War to the Barbary Wars (last of which ends slightly after the Napoleonic Wars, buying another year of game-time IIRC). Find their Orders of Battle, and break down into summaries of sculpts required. Once broken down, look for patterns of particularly active ships to prioritize new sculpts and reprints of existing sculpts.

PROJECT 2: Locate draughts for as many ships as possible of similar layout and origin to the thirteen existing, announced or planned sculpts in Greenwich archives. Reduce drawings to 1/1000 scale. Assemble comparison charts, post here, and ask either Stats Committee or Anchorage community as a whole for up-or-down votes on recommending Close Enoughs to Ares for possible future production.

Both of these have to go forward and work together, much like the parallel offensives of MacArthur and Nimitz in the South Pacific. What I'm offering you the chance to decide is which one I turn my attention to first--though if Project 1 is chosen, I'm going to need some Community Involvement selecting the major engagements of greatest note--we know Nile and Trafalgar are already locked in, and I'm inclined to unilaterally kick the Hughes/Suffren Indian Ocean campaign and the 1810 Mauritius Campaign as blocks to the top of the list.

What say ye? You have one week to make your opinion heard...

I have kicked off the vote with the latter choice.
My reasoning may be flawed, but I feel that Project two will identify all the ships that we can chop and change to fit our needs, whilst Project one will serve to show us what we cannot attain because some of the sculpts just are not available. Therefore, it should trail slightly in the wake of what is possible immediately. I know some battles can be achieved with a bit of jiggery-pokery, but it should be a second best option.
Remember when you vote this is only my opinion, so feel free to put a shot across my bow whenever you like.

Project one sounds more interesting for me.

Come on chaps, this is your chance to be heard. Five votes is not really representative of the whole active membership.

Don't be so quick to gloat, Jonas... you're favoring the option that'll require the most work from you and everybody else to get me started. :p

Option 1 for me please, orders of battle showing ships types and names we can then easily , I think, see what other ships of the same type can be used. Thats my theory anyway

I would like to place my vote for Project 2

this information would help us to rename ships from Ares other than the 'standard issue'
and perhaps highlight potential for conversions as well.
PLUS can we get stats from the actual vessels that will enable a conversion from true stats
to parity for the game versions of the ship.

    Thank you

Come on shipmates, last few hours to have your say. 10 is hardly enough.

Gentlemen, gentlemen... don't make me load up a 68-pounder with Sock Shot and Fartgas Canister!

(Seriously... ONE standard mason jar was enough to make an entire office building at my alma mater unlivable for three days. Imagine if Nelson had lobbed a kegful of those up Bucentaure's backside at Trafalgar...)
