    Book Title:
    In the Hour of Victory
    Author:
    Sam Willis
    ISBN:
    9780857895707
    Category:
    History
    Format:
    Multiple
    Summary:
The author of this book Sam Willis came across a bound copy of Admiralty documents
by chance whilst researching for a book. They had lain undisturbed since the Lords of the Admiralty had them bound in the year of the death of Napoleon. From that time only five scholars have referred to them, and they have remained in the main lost to the world.
The documents are the original dispatches, maps and letters sent by the Admirals, Captains and officers after each of the 7 main battles from the Glorious First of June to San Domingo. Each collection also gives a detailed look at the ships casualty lists as produced after the battle, the ships which fought, and how they were disposed of.
A vast amount of new evidence which in many cases flies in the face of the sanitized versions passed down to us by the Victorian commentators.
All in all an enthralling read from start to finish.

    Rob.
