    Rob,
With time the holes will work lose. Line the holes/sockets with fine brass tubes. That will help keep from getting bigger as you pull the trees in and out.

You have inspired me to have a go at painting up a fort for myself.
How do you play the cannons when using the fort in a scenario? Do you use a paper cut out as a guide for their ark of fire and how do you rate the fort itself?

If you have the card fort examples from Ares David, it is easy to gauge the angles they suggest as correct.
The number of guns and firepower can be adjusted to the needs of your game.
Without giving too much away, you will see an example of this when I write the April scenario. There i have taken the points for enemy ships in total, subtracted from the Allied points total and balanced it up with a shore battery of approximately the difference. The number of guns in a fort can vary from a fully manned one to an abandoned wreck with a couple of guns manhandled up there from a pirate ship. You also need to remember that Fort guns may not only be much larger than ship based ones with a range of up to two rulers because of the elevation of cliff tops etc, but may well be hot shot, if time has been sufficient to get the ovens up to temperature.
All the factors you put in should be based on the scenario and how difficult you want to make it.
As far as Fort Morro is concerned it has an angle of fire of about 270 degrees if fully manned. An elevated fort on a cliff is very hard to hit from the sea, whilst on on a coastal inlet or islet may be reduced by the Fleet. Again the strength that you invest in it should be sufficient to balance the scenario objectives.

Meanwhile the hillside that is the continuation of the landscape is given a liberal coat of PVA to seal it ready for painting.
By the time the Town is ready for its PVA treatment, the hills should be dry, so I won't be waiting for the Town to dry without anything to do.

I would say the same. Space is money. Think of the time it would take to cross from one building to another for the tiny little legs. I would time by 2 or more for the number of buildings. Homes for the little people to live in!

    Hi Rob,
Money! I understand, but Aesthetics???? I do not understand! Look around you at market towns. I think of Newark near you. small streets with 2 open spaces for markets etc. Portsmouth harbour is very open with large buildings. Go out-side of the harbour walls and the old streets (not bombed in W.W.2.) are very small. Space for one sometimes two cars only. The "Spit" is a good place to look at, Two small tight streets running to the sea. Weymouth and Poole Old town are two more harbour towns that show an open harbour and close streets.
I do love your work and think it looks great. The above is my take, not yours. So don't let me build your harbour. Maybe one day we could play a game? I would be happy to play with your shore-line and harbour. This is no dig at your work.

I have taken on board your remarks Rory, and put the small units packed in behind the warehouses and Admiralty buildings, with the Nobs in their larger houses and Governors Mansion, Hospital etc on the hill behind the town with more space around it for the Deer Park etc. So the aesthetical considerations are satisfied to some extent as well now.
When I photograph and post today's progress you will see what I mean.

Still playing about with the buildings Julián, but have concentrated them mostly down in the harbour area now with just the posh lot along the hill. The new fortification will go on the cliffs at the end of the town, above the beach just past the Harbour wall.

I still have all those buildings to paint and the harbour wall to base and finish, plus trees and the small fort to do. I'd guess it's about three quarters done so far.

    Rob.
Love this idea. Gives you more ways of using your shore-line. As you have the road already why not add a small beach and let a road match from the beach to the road?

    Great minds Rory.
If you look closely you can see the scribed marks for the track.
The beach is already cut out, and was applied later this morning so that it could be setting whilst I was out today. This evening I PVAd over the whole lot.

I'm glad you think one of us has a great mind. I lost my great mind bit some years ago. Looking forward to seeing it done and finished.
