    Default Napoleonic Fair, Vitoria 2012

This last weekend there was a Napoleonic Fair. More or less as a medieval fair, but this time with that ambient (not always reached ;-) ).
But the top interesting thing was a Reenactment Group that gave historic fidelity to the event. I took several pictures. I hope you will enjoy them.

    Very nice, thanks for sharing.
I do American Revolutionary reenactment, myself. I could have easily gotten into Napoleonic also, if such had been active around here.

    Thank you for your comment!

I have always thought you reenacters do a very valuable work showing people the past, in a form that books, texts and movies can't reach. Watching real persons in front of you, is watching the real thing, is being in the past.
For example, watching their uncomfortable clothes we realized the heat those troops suffered under the Spanish sun and other details you can't think about watching a movie or reading documents.

It can get quite uncomfortable in the heat; one event I haven't gotten to yet is the reenactment of the Battle of Trenton. You get to march and fight (in a major urban area) in the dead of winter FUN!

    Thanks for the photographs Vik.
I will try to get some of mine up this Summer.
I'm a bit worried about all this fraternisation with the enemy though.

    Thank you very much, mates!

I'm really happy you enjoyed them :)

Don't worry, Bligh! Last shots between UK and French troops were before 1945, weren't they? ;)

    Thank you, coog!

But if you travel to Spain, there are plenty of things much more interesting, to be honest. Reenactment has not as many followers here than in anglo-saxon countries. Most of men here only follow their football/soccer club.

There were four genuine Scots and one Norwegian in that lineup, so no problems for them. I am second from the left in the blue Manchester's Reg. uniform ,and also in blue next to me is Christophe from the WoG Aerodrome site.
What we were laughing at were the Government troops trying to attack us through the snow.

Scurvy looking crew, old mate. The blue looks good on you though.
Here's some of my mates, Hessen Jaegers from 1776:
(I'm the tall one). As you can see, we were very good about hunting game (i.e. well fed :) )

It seems there were a lot of foreign people in that war. I had no idea.

Let us not forget the Canadians, who got invaded by the Rebels, as they were at that time.

    About 30,000 to be imprecise,
And as mentioned, it was a world war.
Trivia; before finalising the deal with the 6 German princedoms, the British government was bargaining with Catherine the Great for 45,000 Russian troops. Boy, that's a scary thought.
