    Default New Royal Navy Uniform

Baseball caps in the Royal Navy! Are they trying to look like Yanks? Nelson must be turning over in his grave.

There have been unofficial RN baseball caps for about 20 years now. So glad we didn't go for some totally pointless "aquaflage" (as I know some in the RN wanted). I met up with the Defence Clothing team a while back and had a chat about the process that led to the new RN and Army uniforms (no digital cammo there either). Can't see the point of the rank markings on the front. Its quite handy being able to spot someone's rank through 360 degrees :)

Actually the biggest critics of "aquaflage" I've come across are my USN chums. They hate it**. I just think it looks silly.

(** one of them said it was a cost saving measure - you fall overboard, no-one will see you so no need to turn the ship around and waste fuel trying to find you :) )

At least you have still got some ships left in your navy. Attilio.

We haven't got many ships either...two support ships that were so run down and rusty they were deemed unsafe, a fleet of six subs but I dont think we ever had more than two at sea, they couldn't get crews, they weren't quiet (a bit of a problem for a sub) and the initial delivery didn't dive properly! Fleet air arm got "sunk" pretty much twenty+ years ago when we were meant to get Ark Royal from the RN but the Argentinians mucked that deal up. One lot of our fleet heli's were purchased second hand and then found to be unable to carry the necessary antisub gear and were evenntually scrapped after years of development and millions of $... ADF purchases could be made into a mini series but no one would believe it!

Don't care for the baseball cap in the Royal Navy. Bad break in tradition which the British military is known for.
