Default AAR: January 2016 Solo Scenario - For Honor and Glory

    Turn 1:

The British privateer HMS Meleager and the French trading Sloop Alligator lie anchorad next to each other, when the Unité starts to intercept them against the wind.

    Turns 2-4:

The privateer turned around and left the prize crew and her prey alone.
Meanwhile the Unité heads North to gain the luv-position.

    Turn 5:

Finally the prize crew got enough control of their new ship to start setting sail. While the Unité continues working her way North, the Alligator does the same and easily gets a better position to the wind.

    Turn 6 and 7:

The Sloop and the Frigate are now running parralel course. Both simultanously turn North-West.

The privateer seems to get out of range too fast.

    Turn 8:

The Sloop is tacking against the wind while the French Frigate keeps sailing as close to the wind as possible.

The distance between them decreases further.

    Turn 9:

The three ships are getting closer to each other but also to the safe North-West territory.

Size: 309.6 KB

    Turn 10:

Just a few more minutes and the Merchant Sloop will be in range!

Size: 307.2 KB

    Turn 11:

Both vessels under control of the privateers are leaving the area exactly at the same time; while the Frigate manages to exit in ruler distance to the North-Western corner, ...

… the Sloop is heading North too fast and ends up about two ruler lengths too far East. Although the Merchantman managed to stay out of range of the Unité's cannons until now, it is just a question of time for the faster Frigate to catch up and retake her.

    So... what went wrong?

As I had stated before, it was the most peaceful of all naval actions I've played so far: Not a single gun was fired, not one man was wounded.
I made a mistake with sending a relatively slow Frigate to intercept a faster privateer and (although only under battle sails) a fast Sloop.
Also, heading North for a while instead of tacking against the wind like the Sloop did, payed of much too late, only in the last three turns. It was pure luck that the Merchantman endet up about 20 centimetres too far East.

So not the perfect start for young Capitaine de frégate Nicolas Lalande but at least he managed to retake the poor Merchantman and suffered no damage at all!

Capitaine de frégate Nicolas Lalande (P) / returned to port / retook Merchantman

    Victory Point(s):
2 (The enemy ship left the table without the Merchant ship; Recaptured the Merchantman and it leaves the table at point A)
    3 Prizemoney (Saved Merchantman)

Playtime: about 1 hour 50 minutes

    A very interesting outcome Richard.

The chase to regain the Prize is really a problem against the wind.
My Brother in Law tried it out yesterday prior to my playing it, and had an interesting time although his outcome was different to yours. I will try to post that in the AA section later today if I get time.
    Well done in your effort.
    Rob.

Well done Richard a bloodless coup. But why was the sloop fast? None of the enemy ships are at this point. I am on phone at present will look at this again when home.

I meant comparatively fast; In lack of more Frigates, I first wanted to use a Twodecker as Merchantman, then saw that it should be a ship wit a burden of 3 or less. My only ship falling in this category is the French 14-guns Sloop, which has not only the best manoeuvre deck but also a Veer of 8, which made tacking a lot easier for her.
Luckily she was only allowed to sail at Battle Sails!

Ah. Understood. But a fair outcome in the circumstances.

You also get the bonus +1 for getting the merchant off at point A (no one to stop you) and 3 prize money as reward for recovering the merchant.

Spreadsheet amended and updated. Remember if Unite is involved in another scenario to use the hull/crew stats off the spreadsheet.

    Question: what means...
"+1. The enemy ship leaves the table without the Merchant ship. (Off any table edge not necessarily at point B)"

I understand that the enemy ship has lost control over the Merchant ship (because it's recaptured or sunk) when leaving the table.

    Or am I wrong?

Basically if the merchant is left on the table microwaves the table outside the distance indicated then it is easily recaptured by the chasing ship. So +1.

    so for me it's:

"+1 VP for recapture The Merchantman and it leaves the table at point A." -> the merchantman was automatic recaptured because you can out sail her

"bonus Prize Money of 3" -> for the recaptured Merchantman (off the table)

no other VP because "the enemy ship leaves the table with the Merchant ship. (Off any table edge not necessarily at point B). -> see Turn 11

OK. As soon as it's up and I read through it I'll make sure you've pointed it right and amend if required.

The campaign is now well under way now with 3 AAr's and a fourth to come.
