I was trying to keep money out of the equation for the Fleet altogether. As an automatic repair system would do. You just need to write in miss one game or miss two games for each ship.
As you may know by now, I don't even fight against named opponents from a list. It is too much like hard work, and even keeping tally of money and allocating it was too much for me to write up on after Neil stopped doing it last year. How he managed to juggle all that work I don't know frankly.
So yes Bob! Let's keep it simple enough to almost run itself if we can. I am totally with you there shipmate.

Captains seem to have had medals struck for major actions, or a sword voted to them by subscription from Lloyd's of London or grateful Heads of State, or a Knighthood from the King for an outstanding single ship action or suchlike. Admirals seem to have got the top honours of Earldoms, Baronetcies etc.
I'm not sure about other countries, but certainly the British Admiralty did not expend much effort in this direction.
    Rob.

I see the medal as a "You Done Really, Really Good" medal awarded when the record keeper is convinced that it is warranted. It must be asked for by the player and supported by other players to be considered. The limiting of one request for the medal for each game is simply for game management sake. I know this is subjective, but then again, so has been the awarding of medals throughout history. The ability point that comes with the medal is the only part that affects the game.

I know that you are with me. When you make a suggestion, I think it is well thought out and meant to give another point of view. I value your comments and experience. What bos'n wouldn't listen to an admiral.

Would another way of thinking about repairs be to allow a fixed number of boxes, either hull or crew, to be filled each month, say 5. That would allow 10 boxes to be filled between scenarios. Larger ships would take longer to be completely brought back to top service, which makes sense too me.

This is an idea and the numbers may not be right, so what do you think?

Crew 50% casualties return automatic (covers less injured and new recruits), Then 25% per game missed. (round up or down)

For privateers then they have to use their treasure to repair recruit? ie 25% repaired automatic then 1 TP/box repaired/recruited.
    Thanks for your ideas.

Ability Points - I think it would be simpler to allow the fractions to remain so that a formula can do the math and let the total column report a rounded to a whole number. The more the computer does the easier for me.

Nation v Nation - I floated the idea of having a fixed number of boxes that could be filled between scenarios, would you read that idea and comment on it. I need and value your ideas.

Letter of Marque - I think your idea of allowing free recruitment works for me. What would you think if we allowed 50% for both crew and hull boxes rounded down then you pay for the rest.

What Admiral would not listen to his Boatswain?
I think you are bob on with this, and it simplifies everything, taking the rough edges and corners off an idea.
In fact it knocks my idea into a cocked hat.

Most of the medals from the navy were issued to the survivors in 1847. There were several medals issued by private means lite the famous medal of the Nile. It was issued by a price agent for his own money and it was a very good PR-trick.

Otherwise an officer hoped to be well mentioned in the despatches and if he had done something especially glorious he could be awarded the gold medal by the navy. I think it was very much about influence and luck to get awarded anything.

Promotions on the other hand were both connections and conduct. Both could make a career and combined it guaranteed quick promotion.

Ok, the spreadsheet is ready to go and I'm compiling the 2017 rules which will include the 2 campaigns, the rules discussed in this thread, and the 2015 rule. once they are published changes can be made to make this a great year for the solo campaigns.

It is now time to get players and scenarios. I am not sure how to proceed. Since we don't have place to put information about 2017 or how to invite players, I need the help of those in leadership during the last several years.

Meanwhile, if anyone is willing to write scenarios for either campaign please let me know in the thread 2017 Scenarios.

We may start by touting around those players who signed up in the past, emphasizing that they don't need to sign up for every game.

If you look at the Nation vs Nation spread sheet the first three players have already put their captains and ships in.

So to date I've played the following:

    June
    July
    September

Concentrating on the NvN games so I can jump to Jan 2017 game knowing what state the fleet is in. I must say the Fog mission was a really bloody affair.

It's amazing how much a guy can play when he doesn't have to worry about the rest of us guys. Thanks again for all that you did.
