Here we can discuss general topics to do with the campaign.

Celebrate our successes and drown our sorrows in a glass or two when/if we fail.

Here is to your victory Richard.

NP Chris. A costly business all this tech stuff. Sean has just bought a GoPro for time lapse images so he can take shots of star movements! For it's size I was surprised seeing how much it cost him.

OK, I'm human, I made a mistake in Rob's result. Apologies Rob but the captured ship did not get a free hull repair. It's only your own ships that get this.

The Spreadsheet is now up to date.

Thanks for letting me know Neil, but I really could not care less what happens after the AAR, as long as I can keep my ships sailing.
The games afoot and that is all I care about. With only six games this year and all my Captains anxcious to get into action, I doubt if many, or their ships will get more than three actions at most anyway.

Hi folks. I apologize for my absence. Since a week ago Monday, I have been pretty sick. I'll try to get this first one sailed on Sunday. I am looking forward to it. Thanks, again, Neil for heading this up.

Eric, I hope it's not the respiratory infection that's been running rampant here in Madison? It's hitting UW and local schools hard. I've had a cold/cough for two months. Take care a get well.

    Just spotted your post Eric.
I trust you are recovering O.K. I am also prone to chest infections, and the one I got last winter plagued me right up to the time we came over to Virginia. I think the warm weather there got rid of it finally.

I played a solo game today, HMS Vanguard (me) vs Commerce de Marseille (ai)

The Ocean class ships are not to be underestimated! I lost in short order. I just couldn't do enough damage to it. Those first rates are absolute monsters!

That they truly are. If you want to break a line the third rates do get hammered on the way in and loose their bite, but first rates are still very much a threat after taking some damage.

The most terrifying moment was a bow raking with double shot and only taking off 2 and a bit boxes. It then presented its broadside next turn and stripped 4 boxes in return.

Greetings all, is it still possible to join in and attempt the January scenario?
Also as I'm still wearing my L plates, would I be allowed to use standard rules first time out?
I'm not much of a nautical word smith, but willing to give it a go.

I think you can join whenever you like.
There you can get the campaign rules http://www.sailsofglory.org/showthre...Campaign-Rules
First of all you need to choose 6 ships and name 6 captains if you want to make the nation vs nation campaign each uneven month.
    ...and then, let's go!

All you need to know is that Neil runs the game mechanism Dave, and he is most accommodating considering the burden.
So a polite request to himself will undoubtedly get you a warm welcome, and all you need to know about starting.
Most of us start with the Basic rules, and only move up the scale once we are comfortable with that. Handling several ships on AI alone can be a big challenge to begin with, without taking on extra new rules.
Go at your own pace enjoy your experience, and the rest will come in time.
This also goes for your write ups. Don't try to be an Alexander Kent, or C.S. Forester. Just KISS. Read plenty of background books, and gradually you will gain in confidence and fluency.
    Most of all enjoy.

You are both more than welcome to join in. As Matthias wrote all I need are the following:

6 ships. Type (1st. 3rd. 5th etc). Guns or ship model based on. Pick 1 as fast (will always sail 1 sail set higher than chosen)1 as slow (always sail at 1 sail set lower than picked. Min is top sail).

6 named captains. 1 may have 1 captain ability but check the rules as we have incorporated crew abilities into this list.
You may choose a 7th who will be your admiral and sail on 1 of the ships with a named captain.

Your email address (PM only please) so I can add you to the spreadsheet access.

You play with whatever level of rules you are familiar with. If you don't have enough ships for scenarios then reduce and balance it out.

There is also the smaller pirate/privateer campaign. Single ship actions using the same captain ship system as the larger campaign but only 1 ship not 6.

Larger campaign is played in Jan. Mar. May. Jul. Sep. Nov.
Smaller campaign is played in Feb. Apr. Jun. Aug. Oct. Dec.

But you can jump in at anytime I'm not a whip wielding overseer.

    Hope to have you aboard.

    Neil
