Thread: SoG game with fortifications

    Default SoG game with fortifications

    I plan a SoG evening next thursday with 6 - 8 players.

Do you have any idea for a setup with 3rd rates and fortifications?

    2 gaming mats available.

I have no idea how it would look like, but perhaps you can base something on the first battle of Algeciras?

I ran a scenario in which ships ran down a coastline attempting to take out a series of fortifications with a couple of enemy ships closing in to pin them. If I were using mats, the configuration would have been to have the two mats connected at the short end, making the playing space narrower and longer, with the coastline running the length of one of the long sides.

I allowed the attacking force to set up wherever they desired, and as the wind was blowing straight down the coastline, if memory serves me correctly, most of the ships started at one end of the coast.

Thank you for the suggestions, gentlemen.

So I have to test a little bit, how to arrange the forts.

Those fortifications are very strong with (burden) values of 9, 7 & 3.

Their weak point may be the crew.

Yeah, the forts can be daunting.

This year, I ran a game in which one team had to safely sail into port. On one side, the batteries were commanded by the side holding the port. On the other side, there was a lone battery that was captured by the pursuing side. It was quite fun. If you like, I can draw out the setup, and send you a scan.

I will set it up using the coastal battery and coast pieces from Ares, take a picture, and send it to you. If the resolution isn't decent, I will draw and label and send that.

Played yesterday with 4 other gamers SoG from 7pm to 3am this morning.

Unfortunately there was'nt enough room on the table for fortifications...

...but we had a lot of fun.

    AAR follows next week.

I just spotted this Sven, and thought ah! fortifications. They seem to be on my agenda a lot just now.
However, it was not to be, but hopefully will be in the near future.
Good looking set up, nevertheless, especially the Grog bottles.

Yes - beer keeps the moral high.

I still need to test some scenarios with fortifications.

Thought about this setup for a while.
