Default AAR-May Solo Mission-"Who Fired the First Shot. . .", And So It Begins.

So here it is. The largest fleet battle I've ever fought solo. It was an epic engagement and surely could have gone either way with random chit draws being what they are. Thanks to Matthias for the 'word bubble' dialog idea. I used it to try and inject a bit of humor in the exchange. Not sure if that works or not in this context, but I got a chance to try out some new tools in PowerPoint so that's a plus.

Thanks Neil for an awesome scenario. It was long, bloody and hours in the making. Read on. . .

I only assigned one captain for the various French ships with no special captain ability. If other captains/commanders need to be assigned for French or British I can do so. Just let me know and I'll consult the roster.

Player: Captain Jean-Pierre Santos of Le Swiftsure / RTP / 8 points rewarded (+3 for winning; +2 for sinking First Rate; +3 for the 74s) / Roll for Crew Damage Effect on Captain / Captain Santos is uninjured (9).

A resounding victory for the French Jim.
Just a pity so many of the English sank. You could have used the prizes to bolster your Squadron.

It's true, but Captain Santos gave both HMS Defence and Vanguard the opportunity to strike. Each ship refused (I failed the '1' die roll). Of course by that time the ships were pretty much hulks.

Out of curiosity in your WGF or WGS solo campaigns can you capture enemy planes and then subsequently fly them against their former owners?

We have acquired prototypes for evaluation and some were subsequently used for hacks in WW1 but apart from a couple of instances they don't seem to have been used offensively Jim.
In WW2, quite a few captured aircraft were re-badged and used against their former owners.

Curious. Makes me think that if you really wanted to bring a bit more realism to a Sails of Glory campaign (solo or otherwise) you'd implement some control over the ships one starts with, their ability to repair damage (in and out of combat) and probably the pace at which ships in general could be 'replaced'. Adding in crew replacement, captain injury, etc., could help create more of a story?

Was thinking along the same lines Jim. Using your acquired ability points to repair ships, replace crew or advance your captain.

That would certainly make my Squadron in the Caribbean more precious, and make me consider actions more carefully, before committing my ships.
We would need to be able to commit the resources we felt appropriate to an action rather than just being given an arbitrary set of ships for a mission. Also as British, if we had to withdraw from a battle, we should expect the captains to be Courts Martialed and cashiered.

    Great AAR. Great fight!

Somehow you get the pictures to look so good that I expect it to be from a professionally shot rules book.

Thanks Jonas. I've set up an area in the basement where i have my model railroad layout and abundant track lighting. I think the lighting makes all the difference.

It is that, but it's also the cropping of the pictures and using a good angle for what's being shown.

Yes. I have been very impressed with every aspect of the whole presentation.
Next thing is to ask about this Railway layout Jim? Chance of any pictures in the Wardroom?

I'll see what I can find for the model railway. It's rather taken a back seat to Sails and Wings lately and is covered in boxes and other modeling equipment. There's also a 1/100 RC model of the Titanic sitting on one end of the layout. I had a module plan for that as well, but it's not moved beyond the planning stage.

Thanks Neil for the additional bookkeeping.

Assign Captain Brian Coineagan to the Genereux.
Assign Captain Angus Remmington to the Commerce de Bordeaux.
Assign Captain Jaden Marcussen to the Dougay-Trouin.

The fourth British ship was HMS Bellona not HMS Bellerrephon, which was sunk on turn four. Le Swiftsure, Commerce de Bordeaux and Dougay-Trouin all fired broadsides which sank her.
