Hello Folks,

Sue and I have been talking about next year's Origins. We want to start preparing much earlier as we desire to incorporate more 3-D terrain. Below are some ideas for scenarios. Any thoughts you have that could enable us to run successful games would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Here are my thoughts for potential games:
  • Pirate: this one would be more of an attraction than anything historical. Having played in Neil's Taranto game, I saw how much fun it is having the players play together against the table. I thought in this game, Sue and I would run a trio of first rate pirates, with the players ganging up on us. We (Sue) would paint three ships along the lines of Jim's creations. I would bill this as a family-fun game with the hopes of bringing in younger players and their parents.
  • Attack the Island Fort: I would place a fort in the middle of the table with 360-degree battery coverage. A couple of players would sail for the fort's side, with everyone else trying to blow the fort away. With a couple of players sailing for the fort, it would provide static and dynamic targets for the players. Wind would definitely play a role as players navigate around the island.
  • Merchants: a run for the table's edge game in which the convoy tries to exit under the protection of escorts, while the interceptors try to capture as much as possible - points would be distributed based on sinking, capturing, etc.
  • Small-ship Action: to be determined - possibly a river engagement, attacking a port, something on a lake or shoreline with many little islands creating narrower passages

I will only be running four games next year to free up a bit of time to play and visit. I think some such lineup as above would be attractive to players, especially those who would like to play multiple games, each one being a bit different.

Again, any suggestions would be appreciated.
