Thread: My Leopard

    Default My Leopard

Do you blokes remember the sratch ship Wear Ship Dave started a couple of years ago. His blog is still there, but the photos are all gone. He got to installment 7 but never finished as I recall. Well it has bothered me for a long while now that I never got to see his finished work.

So I decided to try my own using what I could remember of Dave's method. I took the deck plans and sized them for 1/1200 (sorry guys, but I also made a 1/1000 set just in case)! I cut them out and glued them to 1/16th balsa sheet then cut them out with a xacto knife. Glued the deck pieces together then, after sanding smooth, I cut out the side plans and glued them to the sides. I had a GHQ 50 gun Centurian hull to campare with through the build.

Next was the deck furniture. All made with bits of plastic and paper card. The gun port hatches are also paper. Next came paint.

Vol, I do remember Dave's project and was also disappointed he never finished it. Your work is amazing! Great photos as well.

I contacted Dave not too long ago. I will do so again, expressing our desire to see him return.

He and his daughter stopped by our house once to play WoG. He presented us a plane he did as a gift. He's missed.

I had to leave for work at that point. When I get home in a week I'll finish the running rigging. Then I will jump back on the two Davco frigate that are waiting for rigging.

Diamondback, if you see this I would like to ask if you have the deck plans to go with all of the side elevation plans you have posted in threads? With those I think I can make just about any ship, any size.

Yes I wish we could see how his Leopard turned out. I enjoyed talking with him here. I really wish all of the photos of the build in his blog weren't gone.

I know. I lost a lot of pictures as well.

Hopefully, we'll be able to bring him back to the site. He has been quite busy with his photo business.

By all means we're interested. The sails and rigging look great. Sue really enjoyed painting the Constitution; she did not enjoy the rigging or building aspects. I have a hard time believing I could do it; my hands just don't seem conducive to such small work.

Folks, I already got back to Vol by PM, but for anyone else interested every plan I've posted comes from http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collect...eBy=collection --now that you all have my secret weapon, anybody who wants plans can get 'em if they've been scanned and posted.

One caveat, you need to know the date of the ship you're looking for, since the RN recycled names at an alarming rate.

Yes, thank you Diamondback. I spent some time last night looking through some of the plans. They only post one sheet at a time so it takes a bit of time to find all the decks and side profile of any one ship. I tried searches for the ship names and always got Zero. So I just resorted to scrolling through all of the pages.

I finally got home and finished the rigging. Here are a few pics of the finished ship. The only things on her I did not make are the anchors and the ship's boat. volsminiatures.blogspot.com
